Greeters and Ushers
The Usher, is a person chosen to reflect the warmth and welcome of Christ himself. Always conscious of Christ’s words, "For I was . . . a stranger and you welcomed me," (Matthew 25:35), the Usher serves not only as a Minister of Hospitality, but also as a Liturgical Minister.
Their role is to offer a friendly, welcoming presence to those coming to worship; to provide leadership during emergencies; and to perform such tasks as taking up the collection, presenting the gifts, assisting parishioners during Communion and disseminating the church bulletin. This ministry is foundational to who we are as Catholics. It is not an add-on; it is the bottom line that brings us closer to the Table of the Lord.
Benefits in serving as an Usher
For the volunteer, your engagement in the Mass becomes richer through this fuller
participation. For the community, the comfort the Usher provides to the congregation allows for their greater participation in the Mass through seeing, hearing, reading, and in a safe environment
Even though the video below is focused on a healthcare environment, it is also helps us in ministry to recognize who is around us; what are their needs; how to be in communion.
