Questions you may have regarding the Mission Trip.
What sort of work do we do on mission trip?
At YNIA, a local (to the mission area) site coordinator has been working hard all year to find great work sites for the various parishes coming to the camp! We will likely not find out until arrival where we are going, but that’s part of the fun. OLL usually has a large group that is split into three or four smaller mission sites during the day, and returns together in the evening. Teens from various churches stay together in their church groups, and have time to mingle and interact at the camp in the evenings. In the past we have worked at various Boys and Girls Clubs, done landscaping, painted, worked at a horse camp for Autistic children and adults, helped out at a residential living farm for mentally handicapped adults, worked with St. Vincent de Paul, etc. All of our work groups have had great experiences.
Where will we be staying?
We will be staying at All Souls Parish and Catholic Grade School sleeping in the classrooms – bring an air mattress and a sleeping bag! Boys and girls will be divided by wing of the building.
Are there showers?
Will this work for my Jesuit Junior Year Service Project?
YES! The hours for this trip are not quite enough, but Jesuit’s Christian Service Office has kindly allowed Jesuit students to have an exception and to fulfill the remaining few hours of their service project here in Portland at a similar type of work site. For any questions, please email Gerardo Butalid or Andrea Casey.
