"Everyone knows what it is to hope...
...In the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come, despite our not knowing what the future may bring. Even so, uncertainty about the future may at times give rise to conflicting feelings, ranging from confident trust to apprehensiveness, from serenity to anxiety, from firm conviction to hesitation and doubt. Often we come across people who are discouraged, pessimistic and cynical about the future, as if nothing could possibly bring them happiness. For all of us, may the Jubilee be an opportunity to be renewed in hope. God’s word helps us find reasons for that hope. Taking it as our guide, let us return to the message that the Apostle Paul wished to communicate to the Christians of Rome."

A Message of Hope from The Holy Father
In his prayer intention for December, Pope Francis invites us to pray “that this Jubilee strengthen us in our faith, helping us to recognize the Risen Christ in the midst of our lives, transforming us into pilgrims of Christian hope.” The Pope invites us to be pilgrims of hope in a world that “needs it a lot,” and that “through us, let us allow it to reach everyone who is looking for it.”

A Hymn & A Prayer
The Jubilee Prayer
Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity
and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen.
FAQs?
In the Catholic Church, it is a special year designated for forgiveness, reconciliation, and spiritual renewal, occurring every 25 years, where Catholics are encouraged to make pilgrimages, receive sacraments, and focus on acts of charity, with the aim of returning to a closer relationship with God. The Jubilee Year 2025 will begin with the opening of the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica on Dec. 24, 2024 (Christmas Eve) and will continue until the closing of the door on Jan. 4, 2026 (Feast of the Epiphany). At OLL, we will celebrate the opening of the year on the Feast of the Holy Family, Dec. 28 & 29, 2024.
The 2025 Jubilee theme is “Pilgrims of Hope.” As His Holiness Pope Francis so beautifully expressed it: “We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision.”
