In baptism we become children of God. Every human being created is born a beloved creature of God. To become a child of God our nature must change. Baptism through the Grace of the Holy Spirit transforms us to become children of God.
The Eucharist is one of the Sacraments of Initiation (along with baptism and confirmation). Often called 'communion,' the Eucharist is the very source of our entire lives as Catholics.
The Eucharist really is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. This is not just a symbol.
The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke all give accounts of the Last Supper. While celebrating the Passover with the Disciples, Jesus infused a whole new level of meaning to the celebration, see: Matthew 26:26-28
Reconciliation is one of the two Sacraments of Healing. It has been known as Confession and Penance over the generations. During Reconciliation, we acknowledge our sins, ask for God’s forgiveness and receive absolution from our sins. Usually, a penance is also given, which is like an assignment for us to do, generally saying prayers or doing loving actions.
Confessions are offered every Saturday 9:15 to 10:15 AM (no appointment needed) in the Church or by calling the Parish Office for an appointment (503-636-7687).
Confirmation is the final Sacrament of Initiation. The Confirmand is anointed with chrism oil by the Bishop, and receives a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit which completes Baptismal grace. Read about this in Isaiah 11:2! This Sacrament enriches the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and binds us more perfectly to the Church.
OLL's preparation for confirmation is a communal journey of faith, fellowship, and prayer. Jesus invites us to build His Kingdom: where the mighty are cast down and the lowly are lifted up; where the first are last, and the last first; where we love our enemies and give preferential treatment to the poor.
Confirmation preparation for teens is one year long, and is open to students in grades 7 and up starting in the 2024-2025 academic year.
If you are an adult Catholic who has not been confirmed and would like to receive the the sacrament of Confirmation, please contact Laura Patton at laurap@ollparish.com to learn about our preparation program.
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her." Ephesians 5:25
God designed marriage to be a source of great joy for husband and wife. It is our hope at Our Lady of the Lake that we can help the couples in our parish experience this joy in their marriage by opening themselves to His abundant grace as they strive daily to grow in grace and virtue.
Holy Orders is the sacrament by which bishops, priests and deacons are ordained and receive the power and grace to perform their sacred duties. The sacred rite by which orders are conferred is called ordination. The apostles were ordained by Jesus at the Last Supper so that others could share in his priesthood.

Throughout our lives, and especially as we grow older, we may experience periods of poor health. When these moments are marked with a greater seriousness, for example life threatening surgeries, chronic illnesses, and impending death, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can offer both spiritual and physical healing.
Call the church office at 503-636-7687 to schedule a time to receive this Sacrament.
