Synod on Synodality
Our Lady of the Lake Discernment Session

Saturday, March 9, 2024
9:30am – 12:30pm | Parish Hall

The Church’s global Synod on Synodality began in 2021 and continues this Lent following the fall 2023 convocations at the Vatican with bishops, clergy, laypersons, and religious men and women representatives from, literally, all over the world. The outcomes of those discernments were gathered and published into A Synod Church in Mission Synthesis Report which describes twenty Convergences, Matters for Consideration, and Proposals for further dialog.

Archbishop Sample has invited local pastors to hold a Synodal discernment session this Lent. In the context of prayer, on Saturday, March 9, we will consider these two questions:

1.    Where have we seen or experienced successes – and distresses – within the Church’s structure(s)/organization/leadership/life that encourage or hinder the mission?

2.    How can the structures and organization of the Church help all the baptized respond to the call to proclaim the Gospel and to live as a community of love and mercy in Christ?

The Synod Synthesis Report can be found at ollparish.com/synod for you consider in advance of your participation in our parish discernment session. Please register to attend.

Synod Participation Opportunities

at Our Lady of the Lake

The Synod on Synodality is an assembling of the entire Church over the next two years, at the invitation of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, to encounter Christ, journey together and listen to the Holy Spirit. In the local phase, which runs through June 2022, we of the Archdiocese of Portland will be engaged in a process of prayer and discernment in each parish to collectively discern where and how God is inviting us to extend the Church’s mission in today’s new apostolic age.
